Christina Henry series spotlight

This is one of my favorite series that I have read.  I love that this has all different species of the paranormal world, action that keeps you on the edge of your seat and a gargoyle that will make you giggle the entire time you are reading.

CHRISTINA HENRY is a graduate of Columbia College Chicago and enjoys running long distances, reading anything she can get her hands on and watching movies with samurai, zombies and/or subtitles in her spare time.  She lives in Chicago with her husband and son.

Escorting souls into the afterlife leaves Maddy little time for socializing-until devilishly handsome Gabriel Angeloscuro agrees to rent the empty apartment in her building. But when demons start appearing on Maddy’s front lawn, she realizes there’s more to her new tenant than meets the eye.

Madeline Black is an Agent of death, meaning she escorts the souls of people who have died to the afterlife. Of course, not everyone is happy to see her…

If obstinate dead people were all that Maddy had to worry about, life would be much easier. But the best-laid plans of Agents and fallen angels often go awry. Deaths are occurring contrary to the natural order, Maddy’s being stalked by foes inside and outside of her family, and her two loves-her bodyguard, Gabriel, and her doughnut-loving gargoyle, Beezle-have disappeared. But because Maddy is Lucifer’s granddaughter, things are expected of her, things like delicate diplomatic missions to other realms

Something is wrong with the souls of Chicago’s dead. Ghosts are walking the streets, and Agent of Death Madeline Black’s exasperating boss wants her to figure out why. And while work is bad enough, Maddy has a plethora of personal problems too. Now that Gabriel has been assigned as her thrall, their relationship has hit an impasse. At least her sleazy ex-fiance Nathaniel is out of the picture–or so she thinks..

As an Agent of Death, Madeline Black deals with loss every day. But when tragedy touches her own life, Maddy will have to find the strength within to carry on…

Devastated and grieving, Maddy unexpectedly finds hope with the discovery that she is pregnant. But Maddy’s joy is short lived when Lucifer informs her that he wants the baby, hoping to draw on the combined power of two of his bloodlines. Maddy is determined that her grandfather will never have her child, but she’s not sure what she can do to stop him.

Being pregnant is stressful enough, but Maddy suddenly finds herself at odds with the Agency—forbidden from meddling in the affairs of the supernatural courts. When a few of her soul collections go awry, Maddy begins to suspect that the Agency wants to terminate her employment. They should know by now that she isn’t the sort to give up without a fight…

Excerpt: Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet by Darynda Jones

With renewed energy, I pulled back onto Academy— after hitting a

drive- through for a mocha latte— and had just started for home when

my phone rang.

“Yes?” I said, illegally talking on the phone while driving within the

city limits. Scoping for cops, I waited for Uncle Bob to stop talking to

whomever he was talking to and get back to me.

My uncle Bob, or Ubie as I most often referred to him, was a detective

for APD, and I helped him on cases from time to time. He knew I

could see the departed and used that to his advantage. Not that I could

blame him.

“Get that to her, then call the ME ay- sap.”

“Okay,” I said, “but I’m not sure what calling the medical examiner

ay- sap is going to accomplish. I’m pretty sure his name is George.”

“Oh, hey, Charley.”

“Hey, Uncle Bob. What’s up?”

“Are you driving?”

“Have you heard anything?”

Our conversations often went like this. Uncle Bob with his random

questions. Me with my trying to come up with answers just as random.

Not that I had to try very hard. “I heard that Tiff any Gorham, a girl I

knew in grade school, still stuff s her bra. But that’s just a rumor.”

“About the case,” he said through clenched teeth. I could tell his teeth

were clenched because his words were suddenly forced. That meant he

was frustrated. Too bad I had no idea what he was talking about.

“I wasn’t aware that we had a case.”

“Oh, didn’t Cookie call you?”

“She called me a doody- head once.”

“About the case.” His teeth were totally clenched again.

“We have a case?”

But I’d lost him. He was talking to another officer. Or a detective. Or

a hooker, depending on his location and accessibility to cash. Though I

doubted he would tell a hooker to check the status of the DOA’s autopsy

report. Unless he was way kinkier than I’d ever given him credit for.

I found his calling me only to talk to other people very challenging.

“I’ll call you right back,” he said. No idea to whom.

The call disconnected as I sat at a light, wondering what guacamole

would look like if avocados were orange.

I finally shifted my attention to the dead kid in my backseat. He had

shoulder- length blond hair and bright blue eyes and looked somewhere

between fifteen and seventeen.

“You come here often?” I asked him, but my phone rang before he

could say anything. That was okay. He had a vacant stare, so I doubted

he would have answered me anyway.

“Sorry about that,” Uncle Bob said. “Do you want to discuss the

“We have a case?” I said again, perking up.

“How are you?”

He asked me that every time he called now. “Peachy. Am I the case? If

so, I can solve this puppy in about three seconds. I’m heading down San

Mateo toward Central in a cherry red Jeep Wrangler with a questionable

exhaust system.”

“Hurry, before I get away!”

That Voodoo You Do by Jodi Redford

I saw this book and the cover had me excited to pick it up to read the back!  I read the synopsis on the back and was like alright I NEED this book.

I must say that I had this book read in 4 hours and it was full of love, action, sex and greatness!  Jemma has a plan to seduce her best friend Griffin but doesn’t know that when this happens a whole chain of events are going to change her life for good.  Not only does the seduction happen but Jemma finds out after, that she is a witch and her BFF/lover is her familiar.  Not only that but she has a voodoo queen after her and started a zombie apocalypse.

This book had me from the very beginning to the very end and I highly recommend it!  Out of 5 Stars I give Jodi Redford 5 Stars!!

Lover’s Instinct by Katie Reus

This is a short novella that follow Esperanze and Nikan right after their packs united and two cousins passed.  Esperanze is going to a lecture of a former professor and Nikan is going as protection, or so she thinks.  While there her former professor runs into some problems and Nikan agrees to help him get his ‘human’ friend back.  Esperanze and Nikan end up in some action, and find love when they were just the best of friends.

I highly recommend reading this book because it tells about some pack members you just hear about in other stories and I just love that it leads you into the second book of the series.  I have found some novellas don’t necessarily do that and this one totally made my day!  I love Katie’s writing and I can’t wait to read Primal Possession.  This series is heading into my top 10 I just love it!

I give this novella 4.5 stars

Lover's Instinct (Moon Shifter, #1.5)

Review for Nexus by C.L. Parker

After reading Supernova and Cataclysm I could NOT wait for Nexus to come out!  Let me just say that this book was amazing and did not disappoint! I read Nexus in one day although I am very sad to see this Saga end this was a wonderful way to end everything.

Victoria Milena Cruz-Grayson is now 21 and the grown daughter of Kerrigan and Dominic.  It is also her turn to fulfill her destiny.  You will meet the old gang from the first 2 books and will meet a couple new in this book, including Dante, who is said to be Tori’s destiny.  The chemistry in this book will have you so wrapped up you won’t want to do anything else but read to see what will happen.

There is danger, excitement, laughter, love, action and sadness along with happiness.  You will be on a great ride of mixed emotions but gosh it feels so good!
